Chapter 1
Where Does the Money Go?
Most people know how much they earn. Very few know exactly how much they spend — and on what. That gap is where money quietly leaks away.

Track for 30 days
For one month, write down every rupee you spend. Use a notebook, a notes app or a spreadsheet. Don't change anything yet; just observe.
- Rent, bills, groceries — the big, regular ones.
- Travel, food delivery, tea and snacks — the small, frequent ones.
- Subscriptions you forgot you had.
- Gifts, festivals and one-off surprises.
The latte effect
Small daily spends feel harmless, but they add up. ₹60 a day on snacks or cold drinks is about ₹1,800 a month and over ₹21,000 a year. That's not a reason to never treat yourself — it's a reason to choose your treats on purpose.
Do not save what is left after spending; spend what is left after saving.
Exercise
After 30 days, group your spending into categories and circle the three biggest surprises.
